Being an Imitator of God
“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
Ephesians 5:1-2 ESV
The definition of an imitator is someone who copies the behaviors or actions of another. In order to mimic an individual’s behavior, we must know them. So how can we imitate God without spending personal time with him? We set aside time for every other priority that we have but we neglect time with the One who gave His life for us. As we follow Christ and surrender to Him, we learn to walk in the same love that He has for us. Just as our children imitate us and learn from us, we should do the same with our heavenly Father. We have been born again through faith in Jesus and have received a new nature. Our old nature was selfish and self-serving. Our new nature is expressed in our imitation of the One who’s given us eternal life. We should be striving every day to live in a way that brings glory to God, reflecting our Father in heaven.
