Matthew 5:7

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

In this passage our Lord gives us a trait. You might say He shows us what is to be an attribute that we are to exhibit. As Jesus is teaching in this sermon and painting a picture of what a follower of His should act like. Jesus knows that the words and the teaching will be written down in the Holy Word for all to hear. Mercy can be a lot of things, but I want to talk about mercy today as an action. Throughout life we are being looked on by those around us, both sinner and saint. We have the wonderful opportunity to show what it is to be a follower of Jesus. As I think of mercy. I picture a man or woman convicted and deserving punishment and a Judge showing mercy and forgiving the crime. But mercy is an action that we live out in day-to-day life. Our actions whether we think of it or not, paints a picture of our life and what we represent. The importance of this is why Jesus calls it to our attention. My daily walk should be one that demonstrates His attribute of mercy and in turn I will be shown mercy.
