Crucify Your Flesh

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, Crucify is defined as 1): “to put to death by nailing or binding the wrists or hands and feet to a cross” and 2): “to destroy the power of.” To crucify our flesh is to die to yourself. In other words, our sinful spirit man must be killed. This sounds pretty straight, but this is what God’s word says in Galatians 5:24 & 25, “Now those you belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.”

When we first ask Jesus into our hearts our old man dies. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away.” You have a clean slate; a new beginning! Then, as we walk daily with Christ and live by the Spirit, there is a daily need to crucify or “kill” our ugly, old sinful man that tries to resurrect itself in our lives.

However, when we choose to really live and walk by the His Spirit that is in us, then we are truly made ALIVE in Christ. You see when we die; when we kill our flesh/man self, then we have made room for Christ to live in us. We are giving Jesus our entire lives so that we will experience the fullness of His love, His freedom, His joy, His perfect peace, His everlasting life and all the many marvelous blessings and promises we have as His child.

A simple prayer to pray daily is, “Lord I give you my life, all of my life. Give me the power to resist sin that tries to resurrect itself in my life. I want to live for you and only you Jesus. Show me your path of righteousness to take today. I love you and thank you for the Holy Spirit that is alive in me and leads me. In Jesus Name, Amen.” Just watch what the Lord will do with your life that’s fully surrendered to Him.
