Falsehoods/Rumors

Have you ever been the subject of a rumor? Or perhaps you were the one who said the incorrect information about someone else? Proverbs 6: 16-19 says, “There are six things that the Lord hates, Seven that are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil, A false witness who declares lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers.”

Spreading falsehoods, lies, rumors is serious business with the Lord. Words are powerful whether they are true or false. They can affect someone for a lifetime. I had a 4th grade teacher one time who told me I had such a beautiful smile and encouraged me to continue to smile. Those words stuck with me through the awkward and self-conscious years of middle school and high school and gave me the courage to smile and I obviously still recall them today.

As living testimonies of Christ, let’s be slow to speak to keep our words in line with His Words. And if you should ever find yourself the subject of someone speaking falsehoods/rumors about you, as the Bible teaches us, let the Lord fight your battles and do not repay evil for evil. We don’t get even, we let God apply His justice in His time. Then, let the powerful, living Word be your strength.

Psalms 119: 114-119

“You are my hiding place and my shield; I wait for Your word. Leave me, you evildoers. So that I may comply with the commandments of my God. Sustain me according to Your word, that I may live; And do not let me be ashamed of my hope. Sustain me so that I may be safe, That I may have regard for Your statutes continually. You have rejected all those who stray from Your statutes, For their deceitfulness is useless. You have removed all the wicked of the earth like impurities; Therefore I love Your testimonies.
