God Uses a Fast to Affect Your Future
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! Psalm 139:17 (KJV)
God is omniscient. He is all knowing, He knows everything. The Psalmist tells us that God knows when we sit down and when we get up. He knows our thoughts, He saw us in the womb and even knows the number of hairs on our head. Since He knows all, he sees what is ahead for us.
I want to borrow a story from my mother-in-law. She tells about a time when she was impressed to fast. She had no idea why but she was obedient. She fasted and prayed for a week. Later in the week her brother, who pastored a church in Oklahoma, asked her to accompany him to pray for a young girl. When they arrived, my mother-in-law knew immediately why God had been dealing with her to fast. To this day, she can’t tell the story without crying.
The young girl was demon possessed. There were grown men trying to hold her down to keep her from hurting herself and others. When they entered the house, the girl looked at them. She said, “I know you. I know why you have come.” My mother-in-law tells that she had to look down to make sure her feet were still on the floor. She tells of the joy that the devil knew who she was and he was scared.
The devil knew the Holy Spirit had given them the power to cast out devils in Jesus’ Name. The devil knew they didn’t come with their own intellect. They came filled with the Spirit in Jesus’ Name. This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting, Mark 9:29 (KJV). If she had not been obedient to fast, they would have been tossed aside too. It may not be demon possession ahead of you but whatever it is, God knows all about it. He will protect you and provide for you. Be obedient to Him. Let the words of this song be your anthem:
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, all fear is gone.
Because I know He hold the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
