Highly Favored

“Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” Luke 1:26-28

I’m sure that the last thing that Mary expected the angel Gabriel to say was that she was with a child. She had her life already planned out. She was to marry Joseph, and this was certainly going to be a hiccup in that plan. I wonder what she was thinking as Gabriel declared to her God’s plan. She was to be the mother of the Messiah, the Savior of the world. While this was a great honor, I’m sure she was wondering how she would ever be able to fulfill the calling on her life. But isn’t this the same for us? God has called each of us to something that we are unable to achieve without Him. God did not equip Mary with all that she would need until she needed it. Do not refuse the call because you don’t think you’re equipped. Just as God equipped Mary to be the mother of the Messiah, He is faithful to do the same with you.
