Honor Employer and Employees

As a school leader, I sit in many interviews, and in every interview, a question is asked about being a good employee. What does that exactly mean? A good employee arrives to work on time, follows the employer's expectations, and does their job. Recently, I have spoken with several business owners in our community. It is difficult to find good employees who are dependable and follow the organization's expectations.

Colossians 3:22 says, Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.

We are to do what is right not only when the boss is watching but always. I like how the message words Colossians 3:22, Servants, do what you're told by your earthly masters. And don't just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. We are called to be disciples in our workplace, and if we are not showing honor to our employer and employees, we will dim our light for others to see. I encourage you to be a good employee, show up with the joy of the Lord, encourage the coworkers that are difficult to get along with, and respect the rules and regulations set forth by the organization you are working for because it pleases the Lord. On the days it is difficult, because we all have those days, cling to the Word and get the strength from the Lord.
