Honor God By What You Say

Our mouth can get us into a lot of trouble. It is one of the first things that people we meet notice us about us… How we speak and talk. Now I am not referring to our grammar or our intellectual abilities, but rather our ability to Honor God with our words.

Proverb 18:21 tells us Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. When we dissect this and look at the first three words, we see that we can either have life OR death by the power of what we say. It also tells us in Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Now after looking at this, we can see just how important the things coming out of our mouth really are. Not just for ourselves, but also for those who hear it. There is an extremely long list of things coming out of our mouth that can completely ruin our testimony, our witness, and even our salvation. Friends let me warn you today, to pray over the things that come out of your mouth. This is much deeper than a curse word or a threat, this topic includes gossip, lies, deceit, the songs we sing on the radio, and even the shows or movies we talk about. Think on that for a minute and examine your speech around others. It may not be filled with unacceptable words, but the topics may be putting off and impression of you that taints your witness to others. Guard your speech friends and bring Honor to God with the things that come out of your mouth.
