Honor Yourself

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Romans 12:1

In 1 Corinthians, we are told our bodies are a temple for the Holy Spirit and not our own. We see a similar scripture, but in Romans, we are told honoring our bodies is true and proper worship. How do we honor our bodies? We must be cautious with what goes into our bodies. I do not just mean food and drink but what goes into your mind. I use the saying garbage in garbage out, and this can include what we eat, drink, watch on tv, listen to on the radio, follow on social media, or anything we put into our bodies.

If we watch, listen, or follow negative things, our thoughts become negative and not honoring. If we eat junk, drink unhealthy drinks, ingest unhealthy things, or smoke toxins, we are not honoring our temple of the Holy Spirit. We have to honor ourselves, but it starts with what we are putting into our bodies and mind.

I love that in Romans 12, we are told honoring our body is true and proper worship. What do you need to get rid of that is causing negative thoughts? What are you eating, drinking, ingesting, or smoking that needs to change? When I eat right and in the Word and do not find my worth from media (tv, radio, social media, etc), my thoughts about myself are more pleasing to God. I encourage you to evaluate what you are taking in and if it is not pleasing and acceptable to God, make a change so you can honor yourself and God.
