Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega

The Bible uses many colorful names for Jesus. Everyone of Jesus’ names describes Him in some way. They tell us who is. They tell us what he came to do. Of all of the names the Bible gives for Jesus, however, one of the most obscure is the one found in the book of Revelation.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega [the Beginning and the End],” says the Lord God, “Who is [existing forever] and Who was [continually existing in the past] and Who is to come, the Almighty [the Omnipotent, the Ruler of all].” Revelation 1:8 (AMP)

Revelation 21:6-7 (MSG) Then he said, “It’s happened. I’m A to Z. I’m the Beginning, I’m the Conclusion. From Water-of-Life Well I give freely to the thirsty. Conquerors inherit all this. I’ll be God to them, they’ll be sons and daughters to me. (also read vs 8)

Alpha and omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. The Lord God is the beginning and the end. God the Father is the eternal Lord and Ruler of the past, present, and future. Our sins should be the end of us, but through faith in Jesus, we have a new beginning. Death will not be our end. But it’s what he did between the beginning and the end of time that truly deserves our everlasting gratitude and praise. Ask yourself, ask the Ancient of Days (Dan.7), is the Lord your reason for living, “the Alpha and the Omega” of your life?

When Jesus comes to end this present world, he will give us a life without end in a new heaven and a new earth. Because of the Alpha and the Omega, our story has no end. Hallelujah!
