Lessons Learned

For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, but the wicked stumble in time of calamity. Proverbs 24:16

Learning a lesson can be painful. I don’t know about you, but I often have to learn them the hard way. The good thing is that if we share what we learn with others, then hopefully the knowledge they gain can be a little less painful. If you look up the definition of “learn” in the dictionary it means, “to gain knowledge or understanding of or skill by study, instruction, or experience. You see, sharing provides for all three. We can study and be instructed from the experience of others.

God tells us about avoiding Israel’s mistakes in 1 Corinthians 10 verse 11, Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. During this devotion series, we are going to “learn” from others. Some are examples in the Bible and some are from our own congregation but all are lessons from the Lord and should be used for instruction.

The greatest part is that the solution is already evident. All answers are found at the foot of the cross. Our experiences have many times knocked us to our knees (literally), in desperation and prayerful supplication. In times of stress, discouragement, wisdom seeking and the need for clarity, God’s Word has the answer. We are going to jump into wisdom and search the scriptures for instruction. We are going to learn from each other and from those that have gone before us. Life isn’t easy but it can be less painful if we “learn” what God is trying to teach us. Read what others have shared, their “lessons learned”.

A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel…The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Proverbs 1:5,7
