Let's Celebrate
She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. Matthew 1:21
I use the Holiday Unit Lessons from Young Explorers for Children’s Church lessons in December. This is what they say about special holidays: Let’s celebrate! God desires that His people sing and make music in celebration unto Him. And there is no better time to do so than during special days of remembrance, such as Christmas.
I couldn’t agree more. Christmas is a wonderful time of celebration for Christians. The whole reason for the season is to remember and celebrate that Jesus came as a baby with the sole purpose of dying on the cross for our sins.
Mary realized Jesus was God’s own Son. Her soul praised and rejoiced in God her Savior. And Mary said: My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior (Luke 1:46). The angels had seen this Baby come from Heaven. They gave the news to the shepherds. The very news they were carrying created praise and a majestic chorus. And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.” (Luke 2:13) And then there was the shepherds. The lowly shepherds, most common among men, blessed to be given divine instructions on how to find the new born King. They were so excited they hurried to see Him and the experience of meeting Him brought praise and so much excitement they had to tell others. The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them (Luke 2:20).
So let’s celebrate! Let’s come before His presence with singing! It’s Christmas!
Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15
