Lift Up Your Head

“O LORD, how my adversaries have increased! Many are rising up against me. Many are saying of my soul, "There is no deliverance for him in God." Selah. But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head. I was crying to the LORD with my voice, And He answered me from His holy mountain. Selah. I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustains me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me round about. Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God! For You have smitten all my enemies on the cheek; You have shattered the teeth of the wicked. Salvation belongs to the LORD; Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah.”

Psalms 3:1-8 NASB

I absolutely Love this Psalm. It shows us what we should do when trouble comes. And that is to take refuge in the Lord. God is a shield all around us and He lifts our head. Oftentimes we think that this scripture doesn’t apply to us because we already feel defeated and discouraged, but for the Lord to lift your head it must first be down. Don’t let the enemy steal your avenue for getting out. When we put our hope in Him after the dust settles we feel just like the end of this psalm. We watched the Lord shatter the teeth of the wicked. And we get to sit back and watch it all take place. Don’t be disappointed in yourself when you feel your head hanging down looking at how easy the enemy stole your joy, but let the Lord lift your head and punch the teeth out of the enemy. You might say Pastor B that is a little violent but I say if you knew the battle you would understand the joy of seeing God smack down the wicked. And lucky for me the scripture backs it up. 😉
