More Than Enough

Now Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And there was a woman who for eighteen years had had a sickness caused by a spirit; and she was bent over double, and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your sickness.” And He laid His hands on her; and immediately she stood up straight again, and began glorifying God. Luke 13:10-13

From what this scripture indicates, this woman was a woman of faith. We know she went to synagogue because that’s where this story takes place and in Luke 13:16 Jesus says, “And this woman is a daughter of Abraham.” Yet being a woman of faith, she was bound with a sickness that she had been dealing with for 18 years. How can this be?

When Jesus died on the cross, He not only died for all our sins, He also took on every kind of sickness or infirmity we can suffer while living. Yet for some reason we more easily believe in His work to remove our sins, then to remove our sicknesses. Any infirmities we have are a result from living in a sinful world, so why don’t we ask or why don’t we more easily believe He can remove sickness from our bodies?

I ask these questions to myself as well. When God sent His only Son Jesus to the cross, His work to remove our sins and infirmities was finished. All we must do is believe in Jesus. It really is that simple.

Let’s pray, Lord Jesus, help me to completely believe in the full work of the cross. Jesus every sin in my life I ask you to remove and every sickness in my body I ask you to remove. I believe in the power of the name of Jesus and know that the work of the cross was more than enough. Thank you Jesus, Amen.
