Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4

Trials and temptations are not my favorite things to encounter, and scripture tells me to consider them pure joy. When reading, consider it pure joy when facing trials of many kinds; it is challenging to my spirit. Trials bring up hurt and many things that bring you back to moments in the past. Those are the moments we need to cling to the Word of God and not run back to the things of the world. The remainder of James 1 is encouraging if you continue to read slowly. The scripture reminds us that our faith produces perseverance during trials, and we mature. As Christians, we are not promised that life will be without trials, but we are promised that there is a reward attached for withstanding the test.

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

I encourage you to stand on the promises found throughout scripture when life gets hard and the enemy attacks. Trials are where we produce perseverance and grow in wisdom. Stay strong and know that you have a church family praying for you.
