Prayers of a Mother and Grandmother

Our prayer and intercessory groups have sensed a heightened need to “lift up” both families and future generations lately. I was reading 1 Timothy 1:5 where Paul reminds Timothy of the powerful prayers of his grandmother Lois and mother Eunice…that spoke to my heart because I identify with that testimony!

I was raised by a mighty prayer warrior grandmother that prayed for me and my terminally ill mother daily. My mother also shared Bible stories and read from our Big Family Bible. She also shared the way of salvation. One Sunday my wonderful Sunday School teacher asked if I was ready to “ask Jesus into my heart to be my Savior”. I cried YES, she cried with me and lead me to the Lord. I went forward at the altar call to make a public profession. The church clapped, shouted and praised the Lord (it occurred to me they had been praying for me).

I ran home to tell my mother, but she already knew!! And was waiting with open arms (I thought someone called her, but she told me later she was praying and she got peace and confirmation). Within weeks my mother went home to be with the Lord. My mother told me she was going to heaven and would be waiting and watching for me. She wanted to be with me on my 9th birthday, so we have a lot of parties to make up for!!

My grandmother and I grew close, and I grew under the shelter of her loving arms and prayers. I watched her as she tended her garden, grew her herbs, tended her chicks and gathered produce and eggs! She made her own cleaning agents, disinfectants and canned meat and vegetables! Most importantly, she was the caretaker and prayer warrior for her 9 siblings and anyone who needed her. I am thankful for the legacy that my mother and grandmother left for me!

Prayers are eternal and I am still walking out those precious, powerful prayers my mother and her mother and generations of mothers have prayed. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers in Heaven. Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the gift of generational blessings!
