Secret Sin Hurts

O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee. Psalm 69:5

· Secret sin is not really a secret.

· Sin has consequences.

· Our sin affects others as well as ourselves.

· Sin will keep you from Heaven.

Just like you can’t plant green beans and expect a crop of corn, you can’t sin and expect to not have consequences. Consequences have a way of overflowing to those around us. It doesn’t matter if the choices we made were in private or not. We are affected. Our family and friends are affected. Parents are embarrassed and broken hearted, children are abused and neglected, friends lose trust and we feel guilty. Sin creates guilt and guilt changes us. Be sure, your sin will find you out (Numbers 32:23).

It gets worse, because part of the fallout of sin is the damage to the cause of Christ. Unbelievers sneer and joke. They didn’t believe you to begin with, now they have a reason not to listen anymore. But the single, most catastrophic event created from sin is the consequence for your soul. God does not let sin go unpunished.

But as for cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur which is the second death. Revelation 21:8

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

Got Questions puts it this way, “A born-again child of God has a desire to live to glorify God, and even though there are times when we can and do fail, God has made provision for us to be in fellowship with Him.” The ball is in your court. You have to recognize and expose the sin in your life. You have to repent and ask forgiveness. No one can do that for you. You MUST take the first step. God is waiting.
