The Bread of Life

I am the bread of life. John 6:35

Jesus had just fed the five thousand and the next day, many came looking for him. They went to the water’s edge, but he wasn’t there. His disciples were gone too. They were desperate to find him. So much so that they took out across the sea to Capernaum. When they found him, they questioned him as to why he was there. His answer was much “food for thought”. He tells them in John chapter 6 verse 26 that they are just looking for him because they were fed the day before not because of the great miracle that represented who he was. He tells them to seek more in verse 27, Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that lasts for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.

He was trying to get through to them who he really was. Even though He is the provider of our daily bread, the food we eat. It is not who He is. Our daily bread does not last but perishes after a time. It nourishes our bodies for the day but soon we need more. We need what nourishes our soul. That is His point.

And Jesus said unto them, “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” John 6:35

The soul, which never dies, will never hunger when rely on the Bread of Life. Jesus is the one that will nourish our soul. He is the very Word of God. Be in His Word each day.
