The Power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ

In 2 Timothy 3, Paul writes to his son in the faith to warn him of the days that were to come. In verse 1 he states, “But know this, that in the last days, perilous times will come.” Paul goes on to list various sins that seem obvious to avoid. It is when he gets to verses 4-5 that he shifts. He makes a strong statement about those who present doctrines that deny the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, “.....lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”

To deny the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is to deny that salvation is through faith in Christ and Christ alone. We have to be able to discern the sneaky tactics of the enemy that seek to water down and dilute the Gospel. As believers, we must be saturated in the word of God and tap into His Spirit so that we can discern spirits that threaten to come against the Gospel and the work of the church. These days it is easy to look at the state of our world and see that the coming of Christ is certainly soon. We must be armed with the truth of the Gospel to be ambassadors for the Kingdom of God.
