The Power to Overcome

The Holy Spirit, as His name implies, works to make people holy. He brings people to salvation in Christ. Then, He conforms them to his likeness and finally He sends them out into the world in ministry. This covers the full spectrum of our life and what our mission is as Disciples of Jesus.

The piece that people often get stuck on, is being conformed to His likeness because they continue to deal with repeated sin. It’s hard to share the gospel of Jesus Christ when you’re still in bondage. You feel unworthy and guilty, which is exactly where the enemy wants you!

Once you have come to Jesus Christ, you need the Holy Spirit's help to overcome sin in your life. It’s not something you can do on your own. I can personally testify of trying to do it on my own and failing over and over again and I know of others who can personally testify the same. Being baptized in the Holy Spirit gave me the realization that I had the power to overcome because Jesus Christ’s blood took care of ALL sin for mankind. It was no longer me that was trying to overcome, it was the power of Jesus.

We were never meant to live our Christian lives without the involvement of the Holy Spirit. He’s the one that gives us the Power to Overcome our flesh and sin in our lives.

Romans 8:26, 27 “In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”

Galatians 5:16 “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.”
