The Purification Power of God

2 Kings 2:19-21 “Then the men of the city said to Elisha, ‘Behold now, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad and the land is unfruitful.’ He said, ‘Bring me a new jar, and put salt in it.’ So they brought it to him. He went out to the spring of water and threw salt in it and said, ‘Thus says the Lord, “I have purified these waters; there shall not be from there death or unfruitfulness any longer.”’

Our lives are much like the waters of Jericho. For many of us, from an outsider's perspective, things might look pleasant and appear to be doing great. But on the inside, at closer look, there is bad water and unfruitfulness. On our own, we’re unable to purify our lives so that we can be fruitful in the kingdom of God. It takes the salt of God, the purification power of God, to clean us up from the inside out.

Sadly, there are those who profess to be Christians and might put on a good show, but on the inside their hearts are not surrendered to God and therefore there is no fruit being produced. While we might shake our heads and wag our fingers when we think of people like this, we first must take a closer look at our lives. The Holy Spirit lovingly corrects and shows us if we have become stagnant, unfruitful water. Are we staying connected to the pure spring of God? We can know with confidence His water is the Living Water and we will remain fresh, pure and fruitful when our source of water comes from Him.
