The Value of the Threshing Floor
2 Samuel 6: 6-7
But when they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out toward the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen nearly upset it. And the anger of the Lord burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down there for his irreverence; and he died there by the ark of God.
The threshing floor can be very uncomfortable. Most would view this as a place of significant loss. We tend to want things our way, and in this passage of scripture, we find King David doing it his way. Sure, having a grand parade, building a new cart, and bringing the Ark back to its rightful place was a great idea. He wanted the presence of God in Jerusalem but did not consult the Lord on the means to bring it to him. This is also true in our lives. We want the blessings of the Lord, but we often look over the sacrifice and honor. Here is where we find the value of the threshing floor. In my life, the threshing floor was unavailable. I could not see it then, but looking back, I know that it was needed to remove what would hinder the presence of the Lord. My flesh needed to be crucified. This threshing floor was difficult because what I wanted had to die. But, what I was given in return, I would in no way exchange. When the flesh died, the Holy Spirit had room to move. I am thankful that He loves me enough to take me through these crushing times so His name might be lifted, and His presence return to His rightful place, the capital of my life.
