They Worshipped Him

Although humble in His entrance in this world, Jesus even in His infancy immediately became King for all and over all. Interestingly word of his birth first came to shepherds and then to the wise men. Being a shepherd was not a prominent position or wealthy prospect. On the contrary, the wise men were in place of prominence, power and wealth. This is a reminder that Jesus came for the poor and the rich. He came for the educated and the uneducated. He is “no respecter of persons.”

When the shepherds were told, they made a decision to go straight to Jesus. “... Let’s go straight to Bethlehem, then, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.” Luke 2:15,16.

When the wise men made their long journey to see Jesus, the King of the Jews, they stopped in Jerusalem to ask King Herod, since this was the capital city of the Jews. However, we find out that although there was knowledge of the coming of the Messiah due to prophecies, there was no desire to seek or to know the Messiah.

The wise men had traveled a great distance to see the Messiah. They were earnest in their desire to know, see and worship this King of the Jews that had been foretold. The wise men were guided by a star which was an astronomical phenomenon, but they made a detour to Jerusalem thinking there would be great excitement of this King of the Jews. While this detour showed them there was a lack of excitement and interest of the newborn King, it did give those that heard the words of the wise men an opportunity to also come and worship the Messiah. However, instead of choosing to worship Jesus, plans to plot His death began.

We each will be given an opportunity to come to Jesus, to give Him our lives and truly worship Him. My hope is that no matter the distance, no matter the circumstances, no matter your current “status” in life, you make a choice every day to seek Jesus. To know Him in an intimate way that will undoubtedly cause you to worship Him.

“After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshipped Him.” Matthew 2:10
