Today in Proverbs
There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18
He who holds his tongue is wise. Proverbs 10:19
Remember… Sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you. This little statement is so far from the truth…it’s an all out lie! You can speak rashly without thinking about it and its consequences or you can be as James says, be quick to hear, slow to speak and to wrath.
I happened to be in a store recently waiting in line when a friend of mine comes in and sees me. The only thing is they didn’t want to see me because of a certain matter between us…then I hear a statement proceed from their lips. They had spoken rashly and so I responded in a Godly way and went elsewhere. Those words kind of pierced my heart.
In James 3:2…For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
Proverbs 15:4 a soothing or healing tongue is a tree of life.
Proverbs 15:23 a man has joy in the answer of his mouth, and how delightful is a timely word.
Proverbs 25:11 like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances.
“Flying words hurled out of an angry mouth – counter them with a word from God” says Amy Carmichael
Remember… a gentle answer (thought out) turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1
Think before you speak!
II Corinthians 10:5 …taking every thought captive – what does that mean in your life?
Father God, help me to slow down and speak as you would speak!
