Today the Word is Selfless
I am directed to the book of Philippians where Paul the apostle shares his heart with this body of believers. He states a staggering few words in chapter 1, verse 21…For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. What a statement that resounds from the heart and lips of a follower of Jesus.
Selfless…It is not about me!
Let’s read chapter 2 of Philippians 1-8, “If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, fulfill you my joy, that you be like minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” Now in the next few verses Jesus shows us His example for us. Philippians 2:5 Let this mind or thoughts be in you…which was also in Christ Jesus. Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God; But made himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men. And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Recap on the verses…
1. Be of lowliness of mind
2. Esteem others better than us
3. Look to always help others
4. Let God’s Word dwell in us that we respond as Jesus would
5. Be of no reputation…it’s not about you, don’t brag. Remember, a lion doesn’t roar after a kill!
6. Be a servant to all
7. Be a person of humility
8. Walk in willingness and obedience
Galatians 2:20 sums it up, “I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live, yet not I but Christ liveth in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Final word of the selfless life found here in Galatians 1:16 – The purpose of living for God…TO REVEAL HIS SON IN ME! God, help me to die to the flesh and soul and reveal Jesus in me to the world around me!
