Uncomfortable Obedience

Clean your room; make your bed; take out the trash; fold the laundry… these are probably statements we have heard an authority figure in our life say as we were growing up. Statements that required our obedience, and the more we ignored it the louder it would get, and even sometimes the bigger the consequences would be. The same would hold true in school, when teachers or instructors would give us directions. We didn't always agree with or like these things, but we knew for the most part that obedience was expected and it would ultimately be easier on us if we did them.

The Holy Spirit is a great teacher and director of our lives. Many times we get instructions in a still small voice being prompted to do things. It's easy sometimes to ignore or even question that small voice or feeling that we have even when we know it is a prompting from the Holy Spirit. In these moments we find our obedience to the prompting makes us uncomfortable. Countless stories in the Bible show how in our obedience great miracles and a mightier move happen. From the feeding of the 5,000, the Hebrew children in the fire, even Daniel in the Lion’s Den, and so many more.

Despite how uncomfortable it makes you, as you are prompted in your walk with the Holy Spirit be obedient and watch what God can do through you.

Proverbs 16:20 “Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.”

Proverbs 19:16 “He who obeys instructions guards his life, but he who is contemptuous of his ways will die.”

Be Blessed,
