James 4:13-14 “Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is but a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
This is the scripture that was on my mind the morning service as Richard and I arrived at one of the oldest churches in southwest Missouri some years ago. As we pulled into the yard of Yeakley Chapel, there was Bob on the bicycle. He was dressed in shorts
and a tank t-shirt with a bed roll and several bottles of water. As it turned out, Bob had stopped at the Chapel to rest under the trees for a while. He was on a journey to help others in need following the Joplin tornado. He shared with us that his home was in New Orleans, and he had lost his whole family in Katrina. He was desperate and nearly took his own life when he heard the Lord speak to him and instruct him to go and
minister to help others who were affected by disasters.
Richard invited Bob to share the Worship Service with us and stay for the church dinner following. It was a wonderful surprise to have this little Blessing from the Lord. A very special service to share with Bob who when asked, shared his testimony. He freely stood and shared his story with the church. It was very fitting to have Bob join us since several of us gathered that day were related and inspired by the late Bob Johnson (my uncle) who had founded Seminole Baptist Temple in Springfield and started the Good Samaritan Boy’s Ranch.
Many Things about tomorrow
I don’t seem to understand;
But I know who holds tomorrow,
And I know who holds my hand.(Ira Stanphill, 1950)
We do not know what shall be on the morrow. How many Bob’s are there in our life that we will meet? Some we don’t see right away and some we do. Extending a hand in friendship is always in order. Be ready for God to use you! It will be worth it!
