Well of Lust

The first well we addressed was modesty because it can lead to lust and be a stumbling block for others. In scripture, we are told to guard our hearts. Lusting with your eyes is committing adultery in your heart, so you must be careful what you watch, follow on social media, and how you look at others. In Colossians 3: 2-5, we are warned to set our minds on things above and not the world.


Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.


We must die to our flesh daily, and lust is an earthly stumbling block that can lead to destruction. We must guard our hearts against emotional lust and the longing to be in a relationship outside of Christ. Emotional lust can cause you to get involved in unhealthy relationships and stay in relationships that need to end. Also, we must guard our eyes against leading us down a path of lustful destruction.


But each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

James 1: 14-15


Our flesh causes us to fall into evil desire, and in James, we see that the desire gives birth to sin, and sin leads to destruction. The Bible is our sword, our weapon against the enemies attacks and we must use it to combat the desires of the world. Lust is a well that leads to destruction and can cause death in a family unit. Instead of longing for things of the world, scripture tells us to think about things that are right.


Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8


When your mind or eyes start to take you down the lusting path of destruction, I encourage you to get into God’s Word and think about things above.
