When You Fast God Moves Heaven

Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses.  He calms the storm, so that its waves are still.  Then they are glad because they are quiet; so He guides them to their desired haven.  Psalm 107:28-30 (NKJV)

We have studied Hannah and the results from her fast, children, a prophet and a changed nation.  There are many examples in the Bible of others and the great move of God because of a fast.  Take time and read their stories.  Esther, Daniel and even Jesus used a fast to start His ministry.  The results of Esther’s fast again saved a nation and Daniel’s fast gave him the strength to kneel and pray even when it meant his death.  Daniel’s fasting and prayer so moved heaven that Daniel was able tell the king, My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths and they have not harmed me, Daniel 6:22 (NASB)

The devotion, love and desire to hear from God that it takes to commit to a fast moves the very heart of God.  Our very existence is because God desired to commune with us.  He desires the closeness that you have during a fast.  Your total commitment to Him and nothing else.  You choose Him over life.  You choose Him over food and drink and you choose Him over the things that take up your time.  He loves you!  Of course, He is going to be moved by you showing your love and devotion to Him.  God speaks to us in Isaiah 58:6-9a (NASB)and tells us how He will move heaven when we fast:

Is this not the fast which I choose, to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke and to let the oppressed go free and break every yoke?  Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into the house; when you see the naked, to cover him; and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?  Then your light will break out like the dawn, and your recovery will speedily spring forth; and your righteousness will go before you, the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.  Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry, and He will say, “Here I am.”

Each and every one of these stories reveals God moving heaven and earth to keep His promise and show His love to those that love and seek Him.  God moved the sun back for Hezekiah.  God is willing to move heaven for those who walk before Him and worship Him in faithfulness.  Our devotion moves God and we see the depth of His love toward us. Fast, pray, wait and see what He will do for you.
