The Lord told me to be aware of my stance and where I am. In the prayer group Grambo spoke how someone had told the group she had someone tell her to be a sipper not a gulper. That raised the question to me am I a sipper or a gulper? Often when you get a drink that you haven’t had for a long while we tend to gulp like we can’t get enough and before we know it we are to the bottom of the cup. Now think about this if we are so thirsty for God and we gulp are we truly tasting what we are taking in or are we slowly sipping and enjoying Gods presence, His word, His living water? In Jewish tradition, I’ve read, the first thought we are guided to have upon waking is Modeh/dah Ani which means I am grateful. We recently had a unit in the youth group where we were talking about being in the Lord’s Army. And YES we played the old children’s church song for them. I am going to summarize it as I feel it is applicable to everyone, every day. I asked a series of questions such as: What are the requirements to be in the Lord’s Army? What weapons do we have? What battle fields do we face?, Who are we fighting against?... If we sit down and answer these questions even as adults it really helps us stay prepared. Before our military trains their soldiers to fight in combat, they must first go through extensive training in Bed Making 101. It is kind of cool to know their first real training is making a bed with proper 45 degrees hospital corners. You ask yourself, is the enemy going to be impressed by the old “bounce a quarter off the bed” trick? It helps to instill a standard of excellence…because the way you do anything is the way you do everything. For me it is a fight daily…do all things the right way. I needed a new pair of navy dress slacks, so I went shopping. As I looked through clothing items on a sale rack, I found a pair. They were the right size and the right price, so I bought them. The waistband could be adjusted to fit an expanding or decreasing waistline. I didn’t realize until later that they were maternity pants. I still kept them and wore them many times. Even though I wasn’t pregnant, they were certainly handy when my weight changed, or when I ate a large meal. I liked how they adapted to my changing waistline. But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children. Psalm 103:17 Today we celebrate nationally grandparents. Before I began writing this devotion, I wanted to research a little bit about how this national holiday got started. The holiday was initiated by Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade. I believe she must have understood a little bit about being a grandparent because she had 43 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Wow! I grew up hearing those words. Everytime I would cross a road or parking lot I would hear my momma say, “Step, Look and Listen.” I have carried that into my adult years with my own children and grandchildren. God is saying the same thing to us. We pray and ask God for good things, all the while we go, go, go!
