New Year's Eve

This is an exciting day! We are pausing to be thankful for the year God has given us. Through the mountains and valleys God was always there for us. Just as he will be in 2020. It seems that as we begin a new year we are always excited about what the year may bring. Many of us will make resolutions. Some will keep them and others will abandon them quickly. Whether you make resolutions or not, it is important to begin this year seeking God’s will. Burk Parsons says this about New Year’s resolutions, “We cannot resolve to do anything with a presumptuous attitude before God. The whole matter of making resolutions is not just goal setting so that we might have happier lives. We are call

What Do You Say?

We spend a great deal of our day answering questions. If you work in customer service, I am sure you feel like questions are never ending. In any job, the boss always needs to know something. If you are a leader, those who work for you will need assistance and help understanding certain situations. If you are a parent of small children, the day is filled with, “Why?”, “How?”, “When?” and on and on. The majority of our daily questions are soon forgotten. Immediately after being answered they fall to the bottom of the priority list. However, there have been a few questions we have had to answer that have the potential to be life changing. “Will you marry me?” “Would you like a job transf

Appreciate What You Have

In 2004, Larry and I bought a used 1987 motor home. It had been well cared for and would serve our purposes. We traveled to Texas from Montana and spent the winter there. Then the next summer we drove to Alaska and back. The motor home worked great and we had a wonderful time, but I had to watch my attitude as envy wanted to rise up when I saw newer and fancier RV’s. In 2007 we upgraded to a new 5th wheel trailer, not because of envy but for the room and comfort on long trips. It was a wonderful home away from home, but I didn’t enjoy the beautiful scenery any more than I had with the older motor home. The meals we shared with others didn’t taste any better, nor did I sleep any sounder at ni

Confidently in God

I, the Lord, “spoke” the world into being. As a communicating and expressive being, you have been formed and equipped not only to do great things, but to speak in a manner, AND with an authority that can calm even chaos! As children of the Most High God; the security, acceptance, and significance of My Beloved Saints, is a given promise and gift- you are a son, a daughter of God- with encounters to have in My name...experiences to have... a life to live that reveals Me over and over. I have walked with you thru all your moods, your better days, the days better forgotten ...ALL of them! As the Lifter of your head I say unto you: I know what I put in you- it is precious, unique, and valuable

Luke

Luke, is one of the many men of God that inspires our faith. He is the author of the Gospel of Luke and Acts. These two books are incredibly detailed with much research, family lines, places, names, and little tidbits that were absent in some of the other gospels. One of the reasons for Luke’s exactness and eye for detail is that he was a doctor. Colossians 4:14 states, “Luke, the beloved physician, sends you his greetings, and also Demas.” Yes, a doctor following the Great Physician experienced a healing power that he was never schooled in before his encounter with Jesus. Another title that Luke has is that of an evangelist. In the book of Acts, which he authored, 162 times he used th

The Principle of Honor

This is a strong principle for a happy life in the context of marriage, and that is one that needs to be put on the forefront of your mind. When you Honor one another you are stronger. The word honor means that you are showing value in something. I want to show value most of all to God and then to the most important person on this earth to me. This goes to every married couple. Husband honor your Wife and Wife honor your Husband. This goes especially in front of my children because I want them to see I value my wife more than anything else on this earth. By this model we are setting they will in turn use this for their spouse. When you cultivate Honor you establish a healthy relationship. O

Why Christmas?

Jesus Came so that we who were poor in spirit might become rich! How in the world does that happen? Most of us are familiar with the term guilt by association. That means if I hang around with a fellow who has committed a crime, I may be considered guilty also because of my close relationship with him. And as a young man I remember hanging around the wrong group and it cost me. Let’s turn that idea or concept around and you have got Christmas. It is Grace by association all the grace of God is available to me by virtue of my relationship with Jesus Christ. It’s like this, all riches, all power, all the prestige of his good name is mine and yours. But someone would say, “You don’t deserve tha

Let's Celebrate

She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. Matthew 1:21 I use the Holiday Unit Lessons from Young Explorers for Children’s Church lessons in December. This is what they say about special holidays: Let’s celebrate! God desires that His people sing and make music in celebration unto Him. And there is no better time to do so than during special days of remembrance, such as Christmas. I couldn’t agree more. Christmas is a wonderful time of celebration for Christians. The whole reason for the season is to remember and celebrate that Jesus came as a baby with the sole purpose of dying on the cross for our sins. Mary realized Jesus wa

The Light of the World

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:1-5 The Gospel of John starts immediately telling us who Jesus is. Jesus has always been. Jesus was with God. Jesus is God. Jesus is the Creator. Life comes from Jesus. Jesus is the Light of men. John, this beloved disciple is very straight forward in his proclaimation of the deity of Jesus. Completely God! Skip down to verse 14 of the same chapter

Starlight

I am the light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life. John 8:12 The children are learning a new song for the Christmas play. It is a simple song with a thought provoking message. The first verse and chorus goes like this: If I was a shepherd on that night long ago When the new star appeared and started to glow I would follow that star it would never grow dim I would follow that star it would lead me to him Starlight Shining bright lighting my way His light shining bright forever will stay The children love to sing this song. They sing it with confidence like they know for sure they would have followed that star. They would have tr

Among the Twinkling Lights

Lights twinkle and snowflakes fly children laugh and gifts we buy. We sing sweet songs and boxes wrap spend time with loved one from all over the map. Trees go up and wreaths are hung into cozy beds excited little ones are snug Dinners are served with all the fixin’s thoughts drift back to those who are missing We share presents and grateful hearts and great Christmas traditions we do impart But in a faraway place during a different time one very silent night, in a manger so sublime The heavens rejoiced and hell quaked to its base as poor shepherd boys gazed at God’s little face A mother’s heart filled with love beyond compare, as she sang a lullaby and rocked Heaven’s Heir To the world a gi

Exchange Systems

The Christmas story has been told through the centuries and never gets old. Our son, Nate, was a December baby and his first time in church was the Sunday before Christmas. Listening to the scriptures shared in Matthew and Luke about the arrival of Jesus, emotions of awe, thanksgiving and hope moved me in deeper understanding of what was done for me and the whole world. In fulfillment of the prophecy, Isaiah 9:6 says, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Yes, Jesus had arrived without fanfare of family, community

Diligently Seek Him

I love those who love me; and those who diligently seek me will find me. Proverbs 8:17 Oh, I want to diligently seek the Lord! Just saying the word diligent makes me think of something strong and stable. The online Oxford Dictionary defines diligent as showing care and conscientiousness. That makes sense, if we are diligently seeking God then we are showing that we care by spending time in His Word and His House. We are conscientious about our assignment and what God has called us to do for His Kingdom. As I was studying the verse above, this definition confirmed what I thought about being diligent and diligently seeking God. However, it was Merriam-Webster that caused me to pause and

Lift Up Your Head

“O LORD, how my adversaries have increased! Many are rising up against me. Many are saying of my soul, "There is no deliverance for him in God." Selah. But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head. I was crying to the LORD with my voice, And He answered me from His holy mountain. Selah. I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustains me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me round about. Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God! For You have smitten all my enemies on the cheek; You have shattered the teeth of the wicked. Salvation belongs to the LORD; Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah.” Psalms 3:1-8 NASB I ab

Exposure

We listen to The Message radio staion in our car and many times it is just background noise. I have quickly found it is not just background noise it becomes the songs my children sing. We were shopping, and Corbin began singing “Just Give Me Jesus.” I started to think about the things that I might expose myself to intentionally or unintentionally. Many times I have the television on but not really watching, but my eyes and ears are still exposed to what comes on commercials or the show. “Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within y

Enthusiasm

A while back, I had the joy of taking the youth to the Snow Flex on Wolfe Mountain. If you are not familiar with it, it is a giant hill with synthetic turf to create a snow tubing experience without the snow. It is quite the thrill to slide down the side of an Ozark Mountain on a tube. But as we were out enjoying ourselves, I made a very unique observation. At the bottom of the hill, there is a conveyer belt type machine that moves you to the top of the mountain with no effort on your part. Once on the top of the hill, one small push takes you off the edge of the platform and before you know it and way faster than you climbed the hill you find yourself at the bottom starring back up at t

Listen to Jesus

John 10:27-28 King James Version (KJV) My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: My 5 year-old daughter Aria handed me quite a lesson this weekend while at SDC. We went to the cave there at the park and she was afraid. Despite that she did a great job made it to the end and I was telling her how proud I was. I asked her, “what changed? How did you do it?” She smiled and said, “I listened to Jesus’ voice, and fear is a liar.” I wasn’t expecting that, and my mind began to consider how profound that simple statement was. The fear was real to her but she followed her Master’s voice and His reality became her victory. I wondered how many victories lay on the other side of a sha

Oh What A Family

“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer,” Romans 12:10-12 NASB Many of you know that I love to hug, this sometimes can be uncomfortable for someone who is not used to this kind of love but it is just what I do. This is something that is genuine and not something I do out of obligation. It is what is in my heart and it just comes out. The scripture above shows that we are to be devoted to one another. A family is one that gives preference and honors one another. This is exactly what God is building in our church a

Spiraling Prices

In Montana, the summer of 2003, Larry started building a large garage/workshop for our use. He knew how much money we had saved for this project and was very careful to watch the expenses. In the middle of the project, construction prices took a drastic increase. Larry pondered, “What is the right thing to do? Should I stop the construction and wait to see if the prices will come down? Is the answer to cut expenses in other areas and go ahead with the garage?” As we prayed, we both believed that God wanted us to go ahead with the garage, so Larry did. It was a great addition to our property and he enjoyed using it while we lived there. It is easy to worry, fret, and fume about our finances,

The Great I Am Over You

I, the Great I am, am tuned to all that happens near and far! As mine own, you are to be steadfast in the truth, that changes not, and takes you thru every challenge with scars of courage. Determine this day that your dealings will be laced with love and patience- in the likeness of whom indwells you. The expanse and magnitude of the Lord, and His heavenly kingdom is our “lookout”-from whence we launch our prayers... our endeavors.. our possibilities... even our counter actions. The Lord reigns, and is for you...in your battles, in your lulls, and in your triumphs! The extension/reach of overcoming love is miraculously disarming and deeply moving to a churlish, and stern soul. As My light be
