Walk in Love, for God is Love

I want to share four Greek words for love where you can apply them to your daily life. Eros – This is sensual, carnal love, based on our five physical senses. It is where we get the word erotic from...more so as an impulse, to satisfy the desires of the flesh. Selfish...more focused on getting than giving. Lust after for a person. Phileo – Friendship love two or more people who are compatible and have common interests; where we get the word “Philadelphia” – city of brotherly love; based on mutual satisfaction. Storgos – This word’s best under stoodmeaning “natural affection. It is like the love which the animal has for its offspring....it is a love of obligation, the natural sense and not th

The Touch of Him

Yes, indeed, you have partaken in the connectivity and blessing of a spiritual family, and a gathering of siblings in the Lord; whom you have shared in insights thru prayers, exhortation and encouragement...a breath of radiance, warmth and love straight from the Father's bosom. We all desire to receive from God, Our Closest and Dearest One...and from our kin, who wish our best. Nothing compares to the sweetness of intimate fellowship with like-minded people in the name of the Lord; and the pursuit of His revealed plan. It is with profound, intentional and brimming over gratefulness, that I praise You, Dear Lord, for once again You have come to bless Your people with the barely speakable wond

The Fire Within

A few years ago, Greg was responsible for a controlled burn through the Conservation Department. Even though I was a little nervous, I knew that he was prepared. He had attended a burn seminar regarding the exact conditions needed for the burn to be effective, purposeful and fulfill its intended purpose. Fires start when a flammable material is exposed to a source of heat. When these conditions are in place, a reaction occurs. James 3:5 tells us, “The tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.” The passage in James is about taming our tongue. Being careful about what we say. A fire can be started by our words.

What is it when you really know the fear of the Lord?

Proverbs 8:13 “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way, and the perverted mouth, I hate.” Hate something, no way, but God does expect us to hate the things He hates. As we grow in loving and honoring God, there begins a seed of hate that begins to grow in us. The Hebrew word for hate is; to despise, to dislike something or someone, and to be hostile toward. Psalms 11:5 “God hates those who do and love violence. Hosea 9:15/Amos 6:8 states that God hates and detests those who turn to evil and choose it instead of Him. Psalms 5:5 conveys to us that God hates all those who love evil. There are several things that God hates and here are the rest from Proverbs 8

Walking in His Steps

Like a child walking in snow stepping in the footsteps of his father ahead of him. That is what God teaches us to do. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. John 10:3-4 NASB First we have to know his voice. This is one thing that I constantly pray for. Most people struggle with hearing Gods voice. But knowing his voice only comes from constant prayer and listening rather than talking. I like to just enter a time of worship. I use this to block everything else out, completely surrender to that time of prayer. li

Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him. Psalm 68:1 Brandon and Kendra had to stay with us a few nights while they were remodeling their home. Corbin hadn’t slept well one night and I had given his parents a break so they could get a tiny bit of sleep before heading to work. The night had been rough. Corbin didn’t feel well and he cried loud and often. It seems like it is the hardest when they are fussy and awake in the middle of the night. You aren’t quite sure how you are going to stay awake. You feel guilty for just wanting them to go back to sleep. Your eyes are heavy and your mind is in a fog. I don’t know how parents survive that don’t h

Waiting on God

I think the most important thing that all Christians must learn is this, THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD, AND YOU ARE NOT HIM! We live in a fast food society, the I have to have it right now, the my way or the highway generation. It’s sad that this reflects the way many of us want God to work in our lives. I myself have said, Lord I need you to do this right now or This is what I would do! Notice the pattern, the problem here is me, I’m not God. I don’t know the future, I’m not all knowing, all powerful, the beginning and the end, no I’m just a man. But, I am His child, the one He loves. He know our needs and his timing is perfect. We must learn to wait. WAIT: to remain or rest in expectation Rejoice

Be Encouraged

As a church we were given an assignment by Pastor Sam to read Romans 8 and study the Law of the Spirit to realize everything we have as believers and what the Spirit does for us. I encourage you to study this chapter if you haven’t already. It’s one of those “Hallelujah” chapters in the Bible and I promise it will make you feel much better regardless of your current situation. A verse that really stuck out to me was Romans 8:18: For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. I simply want to encourage you today that we have GREAT hope and a GREAT future in Christ Jesus. No matter how you may be “suffering” to

Doing Unto the Lord

Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Ephesians 1:7-8 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which abound towards us in all wisdom and prudence. You are a man who has been touched to the core, and has been transformed, almost to unrecognotion, by the love you have yearned-asked for, and freely abounds to the sons of the Light. Conquering, by it's definition, is taking over- overcoming-gaining mastery. You are more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus, who helps gain the victory. You are also an oracle of God...His words through you;

Learn to Take a Risk

Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, "Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." This is desert. —Acts 8:26 When Philip was instructed to "arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza" (Acts 8:26), how easily he could have argued. He was having a productive ministry in Samaria, but God basically told him to go to the desert. It didn't make any sense at all. But to Philip's credit, he obeyed the Lord. God was preparing both the listener and the speaker for what was about to happen. He was preparing a man from Ethiopia, who went to Jerusalem and did not find what he was looking for. And God was prep

The Washington Monument

Engraved on the aluminum capstone is the Latin phrase Laus Deo, which means, “Praise be to God.” Lining the walls of the stairwell are carved tribute blocks that declare such biblical phrases as “Holiness to the Lord”, “Search the Scriptures”, “The memory of the just is blessed”, and “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Let’s look at some scriptures that speak about engraving or writing God’s word on our hearts and minds as they were engraved on The Washington Monument. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. Proverbs 7:3 Being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink bu

Your Choice

There are so many examples in the Word of God of choices that people were given and how these choices worked out for them. It is no different in our everyday life as well. Adam and Eve in the book of Genesis were faced with the choice to obey God’s instruction or believe that they had a better idea. Isn’t it strange that the God of creation had given them free access to everything in Paradise with just two exceptions; however, they chose to focus on what they wanted rather than what they were blessed with. Just like us when the realization of their wrong choice hit them, they had another choice to make. Their decision was to hide from the one that had created them to be in “His image“ rather

Cry Out

When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth he began to cry out and say” Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.” Mark 10:47 Blind Bartimaeus had spent many days on the road between Jericho and Jerusalem begging. He had no doubt heard stories about others receiving their sight from Jesus. There he sat, with his beggars’ robe wrapped tightly around his shoulders, hoping this would be the day. When he heard the noise of the crowd following Jesus; he began to cry out. His cry for help reached Jesus’ ears. The first thing he did when Jesus called him was cast aside his beggars garment. He knew when he got the attention of Jesus, he wouldn’t need it any longer. He received his sight and follo

Fight the Good Fight

When you believe the promises of God, they are yes and amen to you. But in addition to believing, you must also take action on those promises. You must be willing to fight for them to come to pass. God does not robotically dispense answers to our prayers. He is a good God and he knows that when we fight for the desires of our hearts, we will grow. When we make effort, He acts to undergird and support us. Many Christians don’t like the word fight because they believe that God does whatever He wants. That belief is a form of fatalism. God is more than willing to give us everything that we need and everything that we want. But He is most interested in the condition of our hearts perhaps more th

I Am Your Strong Tower

Isaiah 50:4-7 The Lord God has given Me The tongue of the learned, That I should know how to speak A word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear To hear as the learned. The Lord God has opened My ear; And I was not rebellious nor did I turn away. I gave My back to those who struck Me, And My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting. For the Lord God will help Me; Therefore I will not be disgraced; Therefore I have set My face like a flint, And I know that I will not be ashamed. 51:7 Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, You people in whose heart is My law: Do not fear the reproach of men, Nor be

Today, Let's Define Love

Are you a person that loves no matter what the situation? Can you forgive and forget? Do you hold things over certain people...keeping your distance? In 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 there are 15 expressions of love give to us by the apostle Paul. I want you to take time to define each one and ask God to help you with the ones you struggle with. Being Patient Being Kind Do I get jealous Do I brag (is it about me) Is not arrogant (having an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities, haughty self-important) Does not act unbecomingly (not appropriate) Does not seek its own Is not easily provoked Thinks no evil 10.Does not rejoice in sin or evil 11.Rejoices in truth 12.Bears all things 13.Be

A Call to Potential

I've been thinking a lot about the necessity of hardship lately. The necessity of the trench, the dessert place or whatever you want to call it. Just the total need for hard things to encounter our lives. Hardship has a way of producing tenderness and compassion. It has a way of slowing the quick judgements and instead lending a helping hand. Hardship places a God given mirror to our souls to show us what is really inside. The Lord has a way of taking a situation we may have once sneered at rather harshly, and dropping us in the same circumstance to awaken a new understanding. It's funny how when that happens we tend to understand with a bit more grace why people do the things they do. Hards

Lift Your Voice

Sing for joy to God our strength. Psalm 81:1 “I love you Lord, And I lift my voice To worship you, Oh my soul, rejoice. Take joy my King, in what you hear. Let it be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear.” It is proven that singing lightens the soul and lifts the spirit. Depression and anxiety will flea. Praise fills you with God’s presence. Praise empowers you to move forward. Lift your voice and praise Him. Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him- his name is the Lord, Psalm 68:4. Let your lips offer praise. Watch the frustration and worry fade. Let guilt and judgment fall away. Let trust and comfort take it’s place. Don’t ask for anyth

Love's Banner

He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love. Song of Solomon 2:5 Every year our town gets an influx of SNOW BIRDS. Tour buses, filled with seniors come from all over the US and Canada to shop, eat, and visit our many music shows. Usually, when the bus arrives they are given a local step-on guide to assist them during their stay. As they enter a theater, the guide holds up a bright colored flag or banner to lead them to their seat. When you book a trip or cruise, your planner gives you a booklet describing your trip: Where you are going and how you are to get there. On this journey, we call life God has given us a book to follow. It’s called a BIBLE. Read and studie

Walking in the Steps of Jesus in Confidence

For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2:21 Take these steps: Renewing your Mind... daily And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 Confessing God’s Word...daily Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned as it were, with salt so that you may know how you should respond to each other. Colossians 4:6 3. Letting God’s Word be in Ever
