What Do You Say?

We spend a great deal of our day answering questions. If you work in customer service, I am sure you feel like questions are never ending. In any job, the boss always needs to know something. If you are a leader, those who work for you will need assistance and help understanding certain situations. If you are a parent of small children, the day is filled with, “Why?”, “How?”, “When?” and on and on. The majority of our daily questions are soon forgotten. Immediately after being answered they fall to the bottom of the priority list. However, there have been a few questions we have had to answer that have the potential to be life changing. “Will you marry me?” “Would you like a job transfer?” “

Bible Verses That Have Meaning to Us

Part 2 My forth verse is the last part of Joshua 24:15, As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. I will admit that I forget what verse it is but I remember the words/meaning of the verse. This verse became important to me when David and I got married, because we both had decided to serve our Lord and Savior. Now with Shawna on the way, the verse has more meaning because as a part of the family she will also serve God. The thing about this verse that makes it important to my family (in my opinion) is that we grow as a family in God, so we can serve Him together. My final verse is Matthew 28:19-20 which reads Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name

Bible Verses That Have Meaning to Us

Part 1 It is important for us to memorize verses of the Bible, but have you ever wondered how many of those verses have real deep meaning to your everyday life. What do I mean? How many verses do you know that have a deep connection to your life and relationship to God. Everyone has different verses that really means something to them, I have five that are a part of my everyday life. The first verse is one that everyone knows and it should have a deep meaning for everyone. The verse is John 3:16. This verse should remind us that God loved us so much and wanted a relationship with us that He was willing to give up His only son for us. If you ever feel left alone or unloved, just remember that

Never Ever Wanted to Be

One of the first things I remember about the Bible was a passage in Matthew. I decided then and there I would never ever be a hypocrite! I didn’t really know what a “hypocrite” was all about but I knew something about cups and dishes. One of my house hold chores was to do dishes – no automatic dishwashers in those days! Matthew 23:25-25 (KJV) reads, Woe unto you Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter that the outside of them may be clean also. I didn’t know a Pharisee from a Scribe. I didn’t know what extortion

The Devil Can't Steal My Joy

He'll try you know. You may not even realize it until it's too late. From the moment your feet hit the floor, he'll do all that he can to distract you, to overwhelm you, to frustrate you, and to stir up worry and strife. Often his ways are subtle, other times they're more clear. It’s what he does best. Stealing. Killing. Destroying. Just say "no." Don't let him win. We have a choice of who we listen to and what we believe. Recognize who is at the root of it all, and push past his lies, step over his traps. God gives us the power through His Holy Spirit to live free from the entanglement of sin. He gives us the power to live strong. He gives wisdom and discernment to make the right choices.

Live Today

The book of Psalms for many is among our favorite because it is so transparent with the challenges of our emotions in dealing with a variety of issues. This precious book gives hope and comfort, we are not alone in our struggles. God is with us. God loves us. God knows us. God will take care of us. Psalms 139 is very clear that God has known us before we were ever made and has great plans for us according to verse 16, “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Yours and mine debut on earth is well thought out by our Heavenly Father. We have purpose because He has a plan for us and has already written in His book. Th

The Sowers Hand

I often times hear people talk about Jesus telling the Parable of the Four soils and tell it in a way where if you sow money you will receive a greater amount. This is true about sowing into God’s Kingdom but this is not what Jesus is talking about in Mark 4. If you read on in the chapter Jesus explains the Parable to his Followers along with the 12. In verse 14 he explains that the seed is “The Word” and as you might have guessed the soils are the different kinds of People. The ones that immediately hear the word and fall away. The ones that have no root and when persecution comes they fall away. The ones that the deceitfulness of riches and desires choke the Word and it becomes unfruitful.

The Season

A couple of weeks ago, on a Sunday, Pastor Sam started his message, “Something is happening in the Body of Christ.” My mind went bac to November 9, 2016, the day after the election, when in prayer the Lord gave me a prophetic message and I quickly wrote it down and saved it. So, when Pastor Sam said something is happening, that Sunday afternoon I pulled the message out of my desk and read it again. I said to myself, “This is what’s happening.” Let me share it with you now... The reason I gave mercy to this nation, was because my people cried out to me, I heard their cry. I see those still sitting in darkness and there are those who will come to me and surrender their hearts and lives to me.

Worry (Part 2)

We have talked about reasons why people worry and why worry is not helpful. But often-times we still worry. Do you fret over the little and big stuff? Do you fear and worry over family stuff? Do you panic when finances are tight? Don’t let worry be a habit! How? Key one – Trust God Trust Father God with every area and detail of your life. The fight is between your ears! But our heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need them, and He will give them to you if you give Him first place in your life and live as He wants you to. Matthew 6:32 Key two – One Day at a Time Sweet Jesus! Live in the present! Live one day at a time. So don’t be anxious about tomorrow. God the Father has

Worry, Worry, Worry, Worry, Worry, Worry

It’s human nature to worry and we worry because we care. Ironically however, when Dr. Karl Pillemer, a professor of human development at Cornell University asked hundreds of senior citizens what they regret most when they looked back upon their life, the majority of these seniors answered: “I wish I hadn’t spent so much of my life worrying.” Here are six of the most prevalent concerns of the elderly: 1. Money Issues...No one wishes to out-live their savings. 2. Feeling Useless...No longer having purpose 3. Loneliness...relationships begin to shrink 4. Moving from One’s Home...No place like home 5. Being a Burden...Don’t want to be a burden on another person 6. Being Abused and Neglected...D

Superhero

Do good! Seek peace and go after it! Psalm 34:14b Do you have a favorite superhero? The kids do! Some of them want to be just like Superman and others like Batman and his black accessories. Many of the girls can relate to Wonder Woman. It doesn’t matter which kid you ask, they all have a superhero they are familiar with and want to be like. A superhero, by definition, is a fictional character possessing supernatural powers and is dedicated to fighting crime and battling supervillains. You may have even seen some superheroes running around the church this week. Our goal for Vacation Bible School (VBS) is to make sure the children of this church realize that Jesus is our Superhero. He is bette

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I was lost, but now am found, was blind, but not I see. Thro’ many dangers, toils and snares. I have already come. Tis’ grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home. Yes when this life and heart shall fail, and mortal life shall cease, I shall possess within the vial, a life of joy and peace. ‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear, the hour I first believed. The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be, as long as life endures. The earth shall soon dissolve like snow. The sun forbear to shine:

My Father's House

The smell of fresh baked bread or the sweet aroma of cinnamon rolls right from the oven. For many people this brings back the memories of their mom or grandmother. For me, it brings back memories of my father’s house. It wasn’t that my mother couldn’t cook, because she could and did. It was the fact that my father had a passion for cooking, especially baking. He loved to see the smile on people’s faces or hear them say, “hmmmmm” when they tasted something he had prepared. Now that my father is gone I miss those days. Trips to my father’s house was always an event. When I look in the mirror there are times I think that maybe the nut did not fall far from the tree. I love to cook. Even though

Love for My Father

Just as the Father has loved me, I have also loved you; abide in my love. John 15:9 I was asking God what can I write in a devotion? He said to write about my love for Him. I do love our Lord Jesus greatly. He has been a faithful partner in my life for many years and more, as I get older. A wonderful example of love for God, is how Sister Howard is faithful in church and Ladies Bible studies. Her love for the Lord shows in her actions. I want to pattern my life after her. I love spending time with God, getting in His Word learning, growing, and glowing. I have this devotional book called, “Jesus- Always”. It is so awesome how it is written, as if Jesus is speaking directly to me. I love Jesu

Risky Love

As you know, I love a good story and the Bible is full of them. This time the story is about a man called “Artful Eddie”. He was a lick lawyer, one of the best, ad his time was the Roaring Twenties. He was a crony of al Capone, a Chicago gangster. Eddie fixed dog races by overfeeding seven dogs and betting on the eighth. He had it all- wealth, status and style. It is recorded that, “Eddie had spent his life with the despicable.” But Eddie was a father. “He had smelled the stench of the underground long enough.” He now wanted to give his son a name he could be proud of but to do it Eddie had to be willing to risk it all so his son would have a clean slate. Artful Eddie did not live to see his

God's Word- Our Soul's Nourishment

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16 The word meaning for inspiration could be substituted for the “breath in His Word” each day to keep us alive and well. Jesus quoted it to the devil when He said, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4. Jesus tells us in this text that there is NO survival of our soul without God's Word. His Word is to be sought and fed upon by all believers. This is not a matter of legal duty, determining one's salvation, but a matter of personal responsibility, which will determine our obedie

A Reflection

“Oh wow, look at that mountain peak. Where is it?” I asked. Larry and I had enjoyed wandering around Mt. Rainier National Park, in Washington. We viewed Mount Rainier from different scenic areas as we drove through the park. The gigantic Redwood trees towered above us on the Grove of the Patriarchs Trail. We stopped to see Box Canyon, and through the trees we saw another snow-covered mountain. The information on a sign post said this was Mt. Adams, forty miles south of us. Both Mount Rainier and Mount Adams can be seen from a great distance. Their snow caps glisten in the sun. These two single peaks stand apart from the other mountains in this area. Scientists say both peaks are former volca

Mission Field to Missionary

What a privilege to work with different people groups in China who in turn train up their own Missionaries to go to Middle Eastern countries of the world as their “Harvest Fields.” Over the course of three years they worked with various Muslim groups in remote China learning specific cultural ways, languages, business trades and are biblically trained. These special Missionaries are named the “Back to Jerusalem Movement.” Becoming equipped with language, business trade, and cultural appropriateness, these “special forces” are welcomed in Middle Eastern countries. In working with the leadership of this movement, their number one request was for the Word of God to be developed in the form of s

What's In Your Mouth?

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 8:21 Nelson Mandela, who opposed the South African apartheid regime and was imprisoned for almost 3 decades, knew the power of words. He is often quoted today, but while in prison his words could not be quoted for fear of repercussion. A decade after his release he said: “It is never my custom to use words lightly. If 27 years in prison have done anything to us, it was to use the silence of solitude to make us understand how precious words are, and how real speech is in its impact on the way people live and die.” King Solomon, author of most of the Old Testament book of Proverbs, wrote often abo

A Light in a Dark World

At age nine, I walked the aisle in our church to accept Jesus as my personal Savior. I knew something real had happened in my life and did my best to live my life as a Christian until my early 20s. I was ignorant of the fact that God cared about how I lived my life and had plans for me. I still prayed daily for His help in getting my life back on track. I really had no idea whether He was hearing my pleas or not. A month before turning 30, I discovered salvation was vital for the hereafter, but it was with the help of the Holy Spirit, He covered the here and now. As so many “baby” Christians do, I believed I had to separate myself from the world in every way in order to please my Lord. I got
