Jesus Grew in Wisdom & Favor with God and Man... (Luke 2:52)

Jesus had to grow, so does everyone and especially those that are close to us as children and grandchildren. Keep going, leading, teaching, training and being a Godly example in word and deed. Here are tips for families. A child as young as 12 months begins to parrot their parent’s behavior. We are role models through our daily actions When you ask your child for something or to do something, say please or thank you. In speaking with adults, it is always “Yes Sir, No Sir, Yes Ma’am, No Ma’am”. The place of “Honor” is vital in people skills. 24/7 Instructions. In Deuteronomy 6:7 implies 24/7 instruction. What ways can you incorporate teaching your children or grandchildren into your daily rou

Wake Up

There comes a point in our lives where we can easily get into a rut where we almost put our lives on auto pilot and coast through the day and don't really think about what we are doing or what we are saying. I believe this is almost like a coma state of mind. With day to day responsibilities and with all the busyness that we allow or just lose sight sometimes of what’s really important. Listen very carefully Wake Up and get your priorities in line. God is and should be first your family second the church body third and so on! When you are tired and asleep you don't want to do anything when you are drowsy you just want to lay around and sleep all the time. This is the devil’s tactic. If the d

Trust in Me

I was trying to get my mother-in-law to write a devotion. I have been bugging her for a while but she still refuses so I guess I will just write what I hear her “preach” about during the day. Many of you know she is facing a battle. She has a brain tumor on her brain that is growing. It is affecting her left side motor abilities. She was sitting in a recliner in our home waiting for additional tests before she could have surgery to remove the tumor when I asked her this last time what she wanted to write about. She started singing an old song. “This is what has been on my mind lately,” she said. How great is our God, How great is His name How great is our God, Forever the same He rolled bac

Plans Revealed

The search for My gold, that being the precious insights, virtues, blessings and ways in which I would have you go, requires an inclination of all your parts unto Me. Desiring the goodness "divine" upon your running thoughts, the effects upon your soulish nature, the transfiguration to the likeness of Him, the benediction as a "conduit" for Me, to be heard and felt for My glory..."how moved to gladness am I in the small and big steps you (each one) take thru My orientation!" I do, indeed, speak to My people and endue an unction, strong or faint, for the benefit of others, as well as yours, for refreshment also warnings...mostly thou, I give you a "splashing" of My All- Knowing Presence, beca

Stranded in the Past

I don’t know if I am the only one who dregs up past deeds. I think I should change that statement to “I allow the devil to slip in and try to remind me of something I did eons ago.” I am a whole lot smarter now than I was last year! It’s all that preaching and praising the Lord that has me talking back and telling any kind of spirit to get out of my house. Maybe we should view “War Room” again! Have you ever noticed that there are a lot of folks-in the church- still dealing with what was? We tend to give “the past” a great deal of power in our lives. And for some, it has become a stronghold that needs to be torn down. If God has set you free, then why do you want to wallow in what was? The I

You Are Not Alone!

Elijah felt alone and vulnerable. At a time when it was popular to worship idols, Elijah had served God faithfully. He had been “zealous” for God and boldly confronted hundreds of prophets of Baal. Yet, when threatened by Queen Jezebel, he suddenly became terrified and hid in a cave. Facing her threats, Elijah felt that he was the last faithful prophet, and the only person resisting evil. He seemed completely overwhelmed and outnumbered. But God reminded him that he had no reason to be afraid or feel alone. In fact, seven thousand others had not bowed to Baal. Even more importantly, God still was in control! And, He still was with him. Elijah did not need to give up, or become discouraged. H

The story of Joseph Genesis 37-50 is one of my favorites. It seems to bring some new facet to light each time I read it. It's a story of love, hate, favoritism, deception, family drama, jealousy, sibling rivalry, disappointment, appointment astonishing hope and forgiveness. Yes, all the makings of a best seller. At the beginning of Joseph’s life we see that his natural father, Jacob favors him over his older brothers. While this might have felt wonderful at first for Joseph, it didn’t go over so well for him with his siblings. This immature lad was a tattletale on his older brothers, no doubt wore his ornate coat way to often, and shared his dreams freely. This resulted in Joseph pleading fo

There is Power in Prayer

“And all things you ask in prayer, believe and you will receive.” Matthew 21:22 One of our students who work in the cafeteria named Josh is a sweet young man. I could tell in my spirits something was bothering him because he was too quiet. I asked Josh if he was alright. He told me that his sister was in a car wreck and ejected out of the car and was five months pregnant. She was laying in a coma and had not moved for several days. I asked Josh, “Do you want me to pray with you?” I took his hand and prayed. God lifted that burden off him and he went home that weekend to see his sister and mother. He told his mother about me praying and the mother asked what time was that? Josh said in the af

The Sanctuary

A place of refuge - This is the meaning of Sanctuary, this is what our church is named after. A safe place, a place were people that are broken can be restored. A place were they can feel the love of God through us. Being a Christian is just that, being Christ like. When people are hurting they need someone to reach out in love with compassion. I am so thankful that our church is just that a place of refuge. So many people are hurting whether it be from a loss of a loved one, a bitter divorce, or a bad decision they made that has plagued them. Most people hide it, some try to self-medicate, but that never fixes the issue. When they come to a place were they can’t make it. I have so much comp

Living Life in the End Zone

Well the Superbowl may be over for the season but true football fans realize that just because you aren’t seeing the player on a field right now doesn’t mean they aren’t actively involved in training for the next seasons game. To be at their best they must train year round. For those of you that don’t have a clue what the game is all about, let me sum it up for you in a few phrases: *Two Teams *A Ball *The end zone *Get the ball to the end zone, and get it there as many times as possible, preferably more than the other team. That’s football. All the timeouts, huddles and penalties, plays and commentary are just by products of the real issue: two teams, one ball, get it to the end zone. So

Black and White Kitty

Uh oh, I stopped walking and stood still. A skunk came out of the brush and crossed the road about a hundred feet ahead of me. Thankfully, he didn’t pay any attention to me and walked on down into the ravine on the other side of the road. As I walked on, I could faintly smell the skunk odor when I walked past where the skunk had traveled across the road. Even though the skunk could not be seen now, his odor lingered. Anyone who passed by would recognize the pole cat odor and know that one had been there recently. What odor do we, as Christians, leave behind as we pass through an area? Hopefully it isn’t anger, pride, rudeness, greed, but instead the fragrant odor of kindness, compassion, lov

Family Convictions

Every man must teach his family from the Word of God to protect them from the destructive influences of wrong desires, false philosophies and evil companions. God alone is Sovereign and the Bible is His inspired Word and final authority for my life. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Genesis 1:1 My purpose in life is to seek God with my whole heart and to build my goals around His priorities. Mark 12:29-31 My body is the living temple of God and must not be defiled by the lusts of the world. 1 Corinthians 6:19, Matthew 6:33 The Church...my church must teach the foundational truths of the Bible and reinforce my basic convictions. Hebrew 6:1-3 My activities must never weaken the Scriptural convictions of anot

God's Creatures

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Ecclesiastes 3:11 I love to visit animal parks and aquariums. The different creatures there amaze me. They usually contain an assortment of rare colored creatures. Some extremely beautiful, others drab and ugly. They are all God’s design. How could I not know there is a higher power? God’s presence is everywhere whether I have met him or not. Thank God I met him many years ago as a child. The desire to worship is built into everyone. People have a personal desire to fill that void. Some worship the sun or mother earth. In Central America some people worship Satan. There are evil priest that have taught them that Satan is good would not do bad thi

Is There Enough Evidence for a Conviction?

And now Israel, what does the lord your God require from you, but to Fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the Lord’s commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good? Deuteronomy 10:12-13 Our claim as being a Christiana can be summed up with five verbs: FEAR, WALK, LOVE, SERVE, and KEEP. The FEAR of the Lord is to know and realize His great power and the circumstances that follow our decisions. To WALK is to live your faith by righteous living. To LOVE the Lord is to surrender your worship and obedience to the One True God. Love is an action word that dem

Women's Lib and Jesus

Years ago, when I was young and foolish, I was very liberal. I know some people would find that hard to believe, but it was very true. I was a women’s libber. Now I did not walk in any demonstrations and I didn’t burn any of my clothes, though there were times I would have liked to, but I didn’t. The main reason I was a women’s libber was because I had been raised, all my life, being told “girls don’t do that!” Or “girls can’t do that!” Hearing those words would make me very angry. I was constantly competing against my two brothers, and anyone else who had rights to do what they wanted. Now, I didn’t want to be anything physically difficult for a woman. I just wanted to be all I could be, as

By The Grace of God

Romans 5:1-2 Grace is far more than a mealtime prayer. The word communicates the idea of blessing. As children of God, we are the recipients of grace, which is poured out on us by our heavenly Father. Let’s look at how we experience this amazing benefit of His love. God’s favor is seen in our salvation, as Ephesians 2:8 tells us: For by grace you have been saved. The blessing is undeserved and unearned—nothing about us prompted God to save us. He acted purely out of His goodness, sacrificing His precious Son Jesus Christ in our place. In that way, we could be reconciled to the Father and adopted into His family. Grace is also the sphere in which we live the Christian life. At salvation, we

Powered by God

Run, run and do as the Law commands, but gives me neither feet nor hands. Better news the Gospel brings, it bids me fly and gives me wings. Today we aren’t subject to the Law, but are filled with the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:11, If the spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal body through His Spirit who dwells in you. He is real and personal and will be to us what we allow Him to be. He is the spirit of life and lives in us. He will occupy your house. Are there rooms you don’t want Him to enter? He changes our thinking. He doesn’t change the way we think, he changes the source of our thinking. Actions flow

And my Prayers Continue On

Prayer has at it's core, a convinced "target landing". An appointed course or destination, to confirm a statement in line or accordance with the Word of God, and our authority to order it, speak it, apply it, and believe for the result of it's penetration and effect, upon a place, a people, a circumstance. We charge the airways with a cause, speaking into existence the good order of God. Likewise, we can arrest and nullify...confuse even, the plans designed to hinder(us). The Word says the tongue is sharper that a two edged sword...that edifices or tears down! I continue to press forward, and exercise my voice to advance the fortitude of a kingdom, and the exaltation of it's ruling King! I s

Don't Feed the Bears

Signs in Yellowstone National Park warn visitors: “Don’t Feed the Bears!” Actually, visitors are not to feed any park wildlife. The animals become dependent upon the human type of food and won’t forage for themselves. If fed people food, they become lazy. Besides, our snack food does not have the correct nutrients for them to develop healthy bodies. Even though it is fun to hand feed wild animals, it’s not in their best interest. The animals can become pests around people and therefore dangerous. Observing them in their natural habitat is interesting as they forage for their own food. But we actually cause harm to the animals if we feed them. Working for our own food is as good for humans, a
